Canyoning

Flores hosts plenty of canyons which offer great potential for the world-wide growing canyoning community to explore. Although the potential for canyoning in Flores is high, there are not many tour operators in Flores that offer canyoning excursions at the moment.

Canyoning is frequently done in remote and rugged settings and often requires navigational, route-finding, and other wilderness travel skills.

Canyons that are ideal for canyoning are often cut into the bedrock stone, forming narrow gorges with numerous drops, beautifully sculpted walls, and sometimes spectacular waterfalls. Most canyons are cut into limestone, sandstone, granite, or basalt; although other rock types can be found as well. Canyons can be very easy or extremely difficult; however the emphasis in this sport is usually on the natural aesthetics and the fun, rather than pure challenge and adrenaline.

Even though the Florinese canyons are not thoroughly explored yet for this popular outdoor sport, experienced visitors can follow the canyon by walking, water-sliding and jumping from pool to pool. Please be extremely careful and contact the locals who are familiar with the canyons about possible dangers.
