SWISS GOVERNMENT TO HELP DEVELOP FLORES TOURISM

Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA News) – The Swiss government is set to help develop tourism on Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province.

 

Swiss Ambassador to Indonesia Heinz Walker Naderkoorn and the Indonesian cultural and tourism ministry`s director general for tourism destination development Firmansyah Rahim, here Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding on tourism development on Flores Isle.

 

The MoU covered the isle`s tourism development improvement, establishment of Destination Management Organization (DMO), sharing of experiences, as well as transfer of knowledge and technology in the tourism sector, according to Firmansyah Rahim.

 

The European country will also help train tourism personnel in Indonesia and send tourism experts to Indonesia, as well as promote sustainable tourism. The MoU also mentions about the development of ecotourism, marine tourism, and cultural tourism.

 

Of the 15 national tourism destination priorities in Indonesia, Flores Isle has been chosen as the location of the project arrangement.

 

The project arrangement program will focus on improving the competitiveness by developing Flores Isle as a main tourist destination.

 

Swisscontact will the executor of the project arrangement under the supervision of among other things the cultural and tourism ministry, the East Nusa Tenggara provincial administration, the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), the district administration.

 

According to Rahim, the DMO development in Flores with the assistance of the Swiss government will become a role model of tourism management in Indonesia.
